American Express Sued for Travel Insurance Charges

As the largest U.S. credit card company, American Express is the subject of a class-action suit filed in 2001 alleging overcharging customers for travel insurance, reports Bloomberg.com. Initial arguments were heard this week on behalf of 6 million cardholders represented in the action.

American Express allegedly charged customers for insurance premiums on all air-travel related charges above $45, but should have only applied these premiums toward airfare purchases. Cardholders complain that the premiums were not refunded in the case that a flight was cancelled.
