Convicted Sex Offender's Online Erotic Business Prompts Calls for Stricter Registration Laws

Convicted sex offender Clarence Augustine, 34, was arrested this week for violating state registration laws, reports the Texas Attorney General Office. Augustine was convicted in 1999 of sexually assaulting a teenage female, and subsequently served three years in prison. After his release, he failed to comply with Texas registration laws, and an arrest warrant was issued on Nov. 27, 2006.

During this time, authorities discovered that Augustine was conducting an online sexually-oriented business named Erotiq Entertainment through the social networking site MySpace.com. This knowledge has prompted the AG office to call for stricter registration and monitoring practices of convicted sex offenders in Texas. Proposed enforcement includes supplementing existing registraton information with cellular phone number, online aliases and e-mail addresses, as well as additional electronic identification data.
