The only way to get this information in most cases is by requesting it from the company. S corporations are privately held, and do not report names of shareholders to the state of Illinois or to the SEC. If an S Corp. received venture capital, it might disclose the names of those investors in its publicity materials or on its Web site. The only other way might be through a lawsuit if there was a basis for one. As part of the lawsuit, the corporation could be forced to disclose the names of shareholders, if this was relevant to the nature of the lawsuit.

Hi Steve. Christopher here, I rented Alain out to you from my old offices. Just seeing how the website is going. Illinois does in fact have a corporate search showing the standing of a LLC or corp. The problem is that they may have used a registered agent to file, the directors should still be listed in some cases for dissolved companies or old companies

In their instance they were listed on the public record. My new startup is listed on the website for the state of Delaware. I'm @cdnpal now.

Hi Christopher. Thanks for stopping by. I understood the original question to be specifically about shareholder information, which in the case of an S Corp. is not available from the Secretary of State. As you correctly point out, lots of other information is available on the SOS Web site, and it is very easy to use.
Best wishes for success at CDNPAL.
