Dwelling Assurance Accused of Violating Ohio Consumer Protection Laws

Dwelling Assurance, Inc. and owner Nancy Schmidt have been charged with practicing deceptive mortgage rescue services, writes the Ohio Attorney General Office. Complaints from residents have alleged violations of the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act, the Credit Services Organization Act, the Debt Adjusters Act and the Home Solicitation Sales Act. The lawsuit claims that Dwelling and Schmidt preyed on troubled homeowners facing foreclosure. They would demand money up front, but neglect to perform any helpful service to the residents.

AG Nancy H. Rogers is asking the Court to prevent Dwelling and Schmidt from continuing to do business in Ohio until consumers have been paid restitution. The defendants face up to $25,000 in civil penalties for each violation.
