On September 18, the Department of Justice filed suit against the owners and operators of a Kansas City apartment complex for racial discrimination and for retaliating against an employee who tried to help tenants assert their rights under the Fair Housing Act. The former complex manager allegedly displayed racially hostile items on the premises, made racially derogatory remarks to African-American tenants and those who associated with them and gave less favorable lease terms to African-American tenants.  Read the DOJ press release.
