After a jury trial lasting fourteen days, the Los Angeles Superior Court has awarded nearly $3 million to the Torrance, California family of Ann Frances Seneriches, who died at age 32 resulting from failure to diagnose and treat ovarian cancer. Defendants Carline Louis Jacques, M.D. and Young S. Kim. M.D. of Southern California are to make restitution to the husband and minor son of Ms. Seneriches. California medical malpractice caps limit compensation to $250,000.

Chaisson comments, “Ann had her whole life in front of her. She has left behind a husband and son due to the defendants’ failure to diagnose ovarian cancer-a leading but avoidable cause of death among women. Since her family will not receive full restitution, this verdict highlights the tragedy of medical malpractice caps.”
