The Joplin Globe reports that a jury has returned a verdict finding Dr. Richard Wolf, a Joplin cardiologist, and St. John's Regional Medical Center were not negligent in the care of Mark Bolejack, a patient who filed a malpractice lawsuit against the defendants. Three years ago, Bolejack alleges that Wolf ruptured his femoral artery during a catheterization procedure, and was subsequently allowed to return home while internally bleeding. The plaintiff was seeking $5.4 million in damages for Wolf's alleged negligence in rupturing the artery and failing to recognize the injury in April of 2006. Bolejack has suffered permanent nerve damage due to the injury, and claimed that nurses aware of the problem did not receive a response from Wolf when paged or try to find another physician to address the problem. After a seven-day trial, the jury ruled in the defendants' favor, agreeing that the artery ruptured and caused internal bleeding after Bolejack was released from the hospital.
