Attorneys General of 27 states and the District of Columbia have reached a settlement agreement with Coke, Nestle and Beverage Partnership Worldwide (BPW) in relation to allegedly deceptive claims that the company's beverage Enviga burns extra calories and causes drinkers to lose weight. Investigations were launched to validate claims that drinking three cans a day of Enviga would burn additional calories and induce weight loss. It was found that scientific studies were very limited and did not directly support this claim. Under the agreement, BPW will pay $650,000 in fines to the states, and must clearly disclose in marketing and labeling of the product that Enviga does not produce weight loss results without diet and exercise.
