The Connecticut Attorney General's Office reports that a subpoena issued from AG Richard Blumenthal resulted in MySpace identifying 90,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on the social networking site. This is 40,000 more than previously thought. Blumenthal, and North Carolina AG Roy Cooper serve on the State Attorney General Task Force on Social Networking, and claim this recent information refutes recent task force reports downplaying the threat of sex offenders on these sites. The states are calling for stricter requirements by MySpace, including implementation of age and identification verification. Investigations are scheduled to ensue immediately on the information turned over by MySpace. Blumenthal's office also recently issued a similar subpoena to Facebook, and is awaiting results of a search for convicted offenders found with profiles on their Web site.
