New York Elevator Accident Shines Light on State Elevator Safety Laws

The recent elevator accident in which an advertising executive was killed by malfunctioning elevator shortly after it had been serviced. Under New York law, elevator repairs can be performed without a license or any specific training. By contrast, Florida, Michigan and a number of other states specifically require that anyone servicing an elevator be licensed and trained.
