Shop Owner and ACLU Sue Middlebury, VT For Salvia Ban

The former owner of Emporium Tobacco and Gift Shop is suing the town Middlebury, Vermont for blocking him from selling salvia divinorum. The lawsuit, filed by Vermont ACLU attorneys on behalf of James Stone in the Addison County Superior Court, claims that Middlebury officials overstepped their bounds by banning him from selling the herb in his shop in 2007. The lawsuit also seeks unspecified damages, claiming that Stone suffered mental and financial distress and was forced to close the Middlebury store. Read more.
