Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 39:4-31

  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. A person violating a provision of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, pay such fine as may be imposed by the court, not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each violation. In default of the payment thereof, the court imposing the fine may cause him to be imprisoned in the county jail of the county for a term not exceeding ninety days.

The fine shall be paid over to the board or body charged with the maintenance of the road or highway upon which the violation occurs.
