  • Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
  • Buyer: means a person who buys or contracts to buy goods. See South Carolina Code 36-2-103
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Conviction: A judgement of guilt against a criminal defendant.
  • Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
  • Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
  • Seller: means a person who sells or contracts to sell goods. See South Carolina Code 36-2-103
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
