  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.

The sheriff shall, within 5 days after the deposit, deliver it to the clerk of the court, and shall take from the clerk duplicate certificates of deposit one of which the sheriff shall deliver to the plaintiff and the other to the defendant.
