Sales Tax

A sales tax is paid to a governing body for the sales of certain goods and services. Laws usually allow or require the seller to collect taxes from the consumer at the point of purchase.The tax may be itemized separately from the price of the goods or services or may be required to be included in the price. The amount of the tax is usually based on a percentage rate of the price. Taxes paid by a consumer to a governing body is called a use tax.
