Simplified Probate for Small Estates in District of Columbia

In general, when someone dies, the estate must go through probate which can be a complicated and lengthy process. But many states provide less complicated options for smaller estates. District of Columbia law provides for simplified probate when the value of property of a decedent subject to administration does not exceed $40,000. The decedent's personal representative may file a verified petition for administration of a small estate with the court. |
