A licensed security guard in Florida is authorized to detain a person suspected of committing retail shoplifting if there is probable cause to believe that person has committed a crime. It is impossible to tell from the few facts that you give whether the security guard in this case had probable cause to suspect you as well as your child. While you claim to have been harassed, it is also impossible to tell from the very few facts that you give what you claim to have been harassment. See Section 812.015 of the Florida Statutes.
