  • Action: includes any matter or proceeding in a court, civil or criminal. See Arizona Laws 1-215
  • Covered service: means that employment status conferring rights of appeal as prescribed in sections 41-782 and 41-783 or Section 41-1830. See Arizona Laws 41-741
  • Director: means the director of the department of administration. See Arizona Laws 41-701.01
  • Dismissal: The dropping of a case by the judge without further consideration or hearing. Source:
  • Employee: means all officers and employees of this state, whether in covered service or uncovered service, unless otherwise prescribed. See Arizona Laws 41-741
  • Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
  • Full authority peace officer: means a peace officer whose authority to enforce the laws of this state is not limited by the rules adopted by the Arizona peace officer standards and training board. See Arizona Laws 41-741
  • Moral turpitude: means an offense, whether a misdemeanor or felony, that is related to extortion, burglary, larceny, bribery, embezzlement, robbery, racketeering, money laundering, forgery, fraud, murder, voluntary manslaughter or a sexual offense that requires the individual to register pursuant to section 13-3821.   • Original probationary period: means the specified period following initial appointment to covered service. See Arizona Laws 41-741
  • Peace officers: means sheriffs of counties, constables, marshals, policemen of cities and towns, commissioned personnel of the department of public safety, personnel who are employed by the state department of corrections and the department of juvenile corrections and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, peace officers who are appointed by a multicounty water conservation district and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, police officers who are appointed by community college district governing boards and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, police officers who are appointed by the Arizona board of regents and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, police officers who are appointed by the governing body of a public airport pursuant to section 28-8426 and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board, peace officers who are appointed by a private postsecondary institution pursuant to section 15-1897 and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board and special agents from the office of the attorney general, or of a county attorney, and who have received a certificate from the Arizona peace officer standards and training board.   • Person: includes a corporation, company, partnership, firm, association or society, as well as a natural person. See Arizona Laws 1-215
  • Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
  • Probationary period: means a working test period of employment in a covered service position for evaluation of the employee's work. See Arizona Laws 41-741
  • Property: includes both real and personal property. See Arizona Laws 1-215
  • Rules: means rules adopted by the department of administration, human resources division. See Arizona Laws 41-741
  • State agency: means a department, board, office, authority, commission or other governmental budget unit of this state and includes an agency assigned to a department for administrative purposes. See Arizona Laws 41-741
  • State personnel board: means the board established by section 41-781. See Arizona Laws 41-741
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
