- Appraisal: A determination of property value.

- City: includes "city and county" and "incorporated town" but does not include "unincorporated town" or "village. See California Government Code 20

- dissenting shareholder: means the recordholder of dissenting shares and includes a transferee of record. See California Corporations Code 1300
- dissenting shares: means shares to which all of the following apply:

- District: as used in this chapter , means a district created and operating under this chapter. See California Government Code 65060.3
- Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
- Person: includes a corporation as well as a natural person. See California Corporations Code 18
- Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
- Region: as used in this chapter , means the area included within a district. See California Government Code 65060.6
- Regional plan: as used in this chapter , means a comprehensive, long-term general plan for the physical development of the region, and any land outside its boundaries which in the board's judgment bears relation to its planning. See California Government Code 65060.7
- State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Education Code 77
- Testify: Answer questions in court.
