- Bag limit: means the maximum limit, in number or amount, of birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, or amphibians that may lawfully be taken by any one person during a specified period of time. See California Fish and Game Code 18
- Beverage: means beer or other malt beverages and mineral waters, soda water and similar carbonated soft drinks in liquid form and intended for human consumption. See California Health and Safety Code 113200
- Beverage container: means the individual, separate, sealed glass, metal or plastic bottle, can, jar or carton containing a beverage. See California Health and Safety Code 113200
- Bird: means a wild bird or part of a wild bird. See California Fish and Game Code 22
- Commission: means the Fish and Game Commission, and "commissioner" means a member of the Fish and Game Commission. See California Fish and Game Code 30
- Construction or alteration: as used in this article includes any construction, reconstruction, or alteration of, or addition to, any school building. See California Education Code 17294
- Consumer: means any individual who seeks or acquires, by purchase or lease, any goods, services, money, or credit for personal, family, or household purposes. See California Business and Professions Code 302
- Council: as used in this chapter , means the Planning Advisory and Assistance Council established pursuant to subdivision (a) of Section 65040. See California Government Code 65028.1
- County: includes city and county. See California Fish and Game Code 32

- District: as used in this chapter , means a regional planning district created by the Office of Planning and Research pursuant to Section 65040. See California Government Code 65028.2
- Division: means the Division of Consumer Services. See California Business and Professions Code 302
- Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- Extradition: The formal process of delivering an accused or convicted person from authorities in one state to authorities in another state.
- Fish: means a wild fish, mollusk, crustacean, invertebrate, amphibian, or part, spawn, or ovum of any of those animals. See California Fish and Game Code 45
- Food: as used in this chapter , includes all articles used for food, drink, confectionery, or condiment, whether simple or compound, and all substances and ingredients used in the preparation thereof. See California Health and Safety Code 111950
- Food processing establishment: as used in this chapter , shall mean any room, building, or place or portion thereof, maintained, used, or operated for the purpose of commercially storing, packaging, making, cooking, mixing, processing, bottling, canning, packing, slaughtering, or otherwise preparing or handling food except restaurants. See California Health and Safety Code 111955
- In this state: means within the exterior limits of the State of California and includes all territory within these limits owned by or ceded to the United States of America. See California Health and Safety Code 113200
- legislative body: means board of trustees, city council, or other governing body of a city. See California Government Code 34000
- Mammal: means a wild or feral mammal or part of a wild or feral animal, but not a wild, feral, or undomesticated burro. See California Fish and Game Code 54
- mayor: includes president of the legislative body. See California Government Code 34002
- Mile: means either a statute mile (5,280 feet) or a nautical mile (6,077 feet) depending on the application. See California Fish and Game Code 55
- Net: means any gear made of any kind of twine, thread, string, rope, wire, wood, or other materials used for the gilling, entangling, trapping, or impounding of fish. See California Fish and Game Code 56
- Nonresident: means a person who is not a resident as defined in Section 70. See California Fish and Game Code 57
- Office: as used in this chapter means the Office of Planning and Research. See California Government Code 65025
- Open season: means that period of time during which the taking of birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, or amphibians is allowed as prescribed in this code and regulations adopted by the commission. See California Fish and Game Code 62
- Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
- Person: means any natural person or any partnership, corporation, limited liability company, trust, or other type of association. See California Fish and Game Code 67
- Person: includes a corporation as well as a natural person. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
- Person: includes a natural person, firm, association, organization, partnership, business trust, corporation, limited liability company, or public entity. See California Family Code 105
- Personal property: All property that is not real property.
- Petitioner: includes plaintiff, where appropriate. See California Family Code 126
- Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
- Pleadings: Written statements of the parties in a civil case of their positions. In the federal courts, the principal pleadings are the complaint and the answer.
- Possession limit: means the maximum, in number or amount, of birds, mammals, fish, reptiles, or amphibians that may be lawfully possessed by one person. See California Fish and Game Code 19
- Property: includes both personal and real property. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
- Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government.
- Report: as used in this chapter , means the State Environmental Goals and Policy Report. See California Government Code 65027
- Resident: means any person who has resided continuously in the State of California for six months or more immediately prior to the date of his application for a license or permit, any person on active military duty with the Armed Forces of the United States or auxiliary branch thereof, or any person enrolled in the Job Corps established pursuant to Section 2883 of Title 29 of the United States Code. See California Fish and Game Code 70
- Respondent: includes defendant, where appropriate. See California Family Code 127
- School building: as used in this article means and includes any building used, or designed to be used, for elementary or secondary school purposes and constructed, reconstructed, altered, or added to, by the state or by any city or city and county, or by any political subdivision, or by any school district of any kind within the state, or by any regional occupational center or program created by or authorized to act by an agreement under joint exercise of power, or by the United States government, or any agency thereof. - season: means "open season. See California Fish and Game Code 62
- Service of process: The service of writs or summonses to the appropriate party.
- State: means the State of California, unless applied to the different parts of the United States. See California Fish and Game Code 83
- State: includes the District of Columbia and the territories when applied to the different parts of the United States, and the words "United States" may include the district and territories. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
- Subdivision: means a subdivision of the section in which that term occurs unless some other section is expressly mentioned. See California Fish and Game Code 73
- Support: refers to a support obligation owing on behalf of a child, spouse, or family, or an amount owing pursuant to Section 17402. See California Family Code 150
- Support order: means a judgment or order of support in favor of an obligee, whether temporary or final, or subject to modification, termination, or remission, regardless of the kind of action or proceeding in which it is entered. See California Family Code 155
- Take: means hunt, pursue, catch, capture, or kill, or attempt to hunt, pursue, catch, capture, or kill. See California Fish and Game Code 86
- Will: includes codicil. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
- Writing: includes printing and typewriting. See California Code of Civil Procedure 17
