(a) Any person who violates any provision of § 19a-551 shall be guilty of a class A misdemeanor.

- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Guardian: A person legally empowered and charged with the duty of taking care of and managing the property of another person who because of age, intellect, or health, is incapable of managing his (her) own affairs.
- nursing home facility: means (1) any chronic and convalescent nursing home or any rest home with nursing supervision that provides nursing supervision under a medical director twenty-four hours per day, or (2) any chronic and convalescent nursing home that provides skilled nursing care under medical supervision and direction to carry out nonsurgical treatment and dietary procedures for chronic diseases, convalescent stages, acute diseases or injuries. - Person: means any individual, firm, partnership, corporation, limited liability company or association. See Connecticut General Statutes 19a-490
(b) Any resident of a nursing home or residential care home or such resident’s legally liable relative, guardian or conservator may bring an action in the Superior Court for any violation of § 19a-551. Any nursing home facility or residential care home determined by the court to be in violation of any provision of said section shall be liable to the injured party for treble damages.
