  • Habeas corpus: A writ that is usually used to bring a prisoner before the court to determine the legality of his imprisonment. It may also be used to bring a person in custody before the court to give testimony, or to be prosecuted.
  • Liabilities: The aggregate of all debts and other legal obligations of a particular person or legal entity.
  • Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.

The liabilities and penalties of section writ or order to show cause, penalties” class=”unlinked-ref” datatype=”S” sessionyear=”2022″ statecd=”HI”>660-22 shall also be imposed upon any person who, having in that person’s custody or under that person’s power any person entitled to a writ of habeas corpus, with intent to elude the service of the writ or to avoid the effect thereof, transfers the person to the custody or places the person under the control or power of any other person, or conceals the person or changes the person’s place of confinement.
