  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • Appraisal: A determination of property value.
  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Ballot: includes :

    (1) A ballot summary reflecting a complete record of the ballot selections made by a voter utilizing an HTML ballot or similar accessible ballot that produces a ballot summary;

    (2) A voter verifiable paper audit trail in the event there is a discrepancy between a voting machine's electronic record of the voted ballot and the voter verifiable paper audit trail; and

    (3) A ballot used in an election by mail pursuant to part VIIA, including a ballot approved for electronic transmission. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 11-1

  • Bonds: means bonds, notes, and other instruments of indebtedness. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 47-1
  • Committee: means the joint legislative management committee established under this chapter. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 21E-1
  • Committee membership: Legislators are assigned to specific committees by their party. Seniority, regional balance, and political philosophy are the most prominent factors in the committee assignment process.
  • Compensation: means all benefits accorded by this chapter to an employee or the employee's dependents on account of a work injury as defined in this section; it includes medical and rehabilitation benefits, income and indemnity benefits in cases of disability or death, and the allowance for funeral and burial expenses.   • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • county: includes the city and county of Honolulu. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 1-22
  • County: means the counties of Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui and the city and county of Honolulu. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 47-1
  • Department: means the department of labor and industrial relations. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 386-1
  • Director: means the director of labor and industrial relations. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 386-1
  • Director of finance: means the director of finance of each county. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 47-1
  • Election officials: means persons designated as officials by the chief election officer. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 11-1
  • Employee: means any individual in the employment of another person. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 386-1
  • Employer: means any person having one or more persons in the person's employment. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 386-1
  • Governing body: means the council of each county, or any other body exercising the legislative powers of the county. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 47-1
  • Indemnification: In general, a collateral contract or assurance under which one person agrees to secure another person against either anticipated financial losses or potential adverse legal consequences. Source: FDIC
  • Legislative service agency: means the office of the auditor, the office of the legislative reference bureau, and the office of the ombudsman. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 21E-1
  • Legislative service agency director: means the director or administrative head of a legislative service agency. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 21E-1
  • Member: means a member of the joint legislative management committee. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 21E-1
  • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
  • Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
  • Voting system: means the use of paper ballots, electronic transmission, voting machines, elections by mail pursuant to part VIIA, absentee voting pursuant to chapter 15, or any system by which votes are cast and counted. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 11-1
  • Wages: means all remuneration for services constituting employment. See Hawaii Revised Statutes 386-1
