A museum district has the power to acquire, improve, and maintain any interest in lands containing one or more historical sites, together with related lands and facilities, for the purpose of protecting and preserving the historical sites and establishing a museum for the purpose of public awareness and education. A district may enter into contracts with local governments to pay all or part of the costs of improving and maintaining any public roadway lying outside the district’s property but providing public access to the lands and facilities of the district.
