  • Charity: An agency, institution, or organization in existence and operating for the benefit of an indefinite number of persons and conducted for educational, religious, scientific, medical, or other beneficent purposes.

The board of hospital trustees shall have power to determine whether or not patients presented at said city hospital for treatment are subjects of charity, and shall fix such prices for compensation for patients, other than those who may be able to assist themselves, as the said board deems proper, the receipts therefor to be paid to the treasurer of said board and credited by the treasurer to the hospital funds.
