Terms Used In Kansas Statutes 72-17,138

  • Board: means the board of education of a school district and the governing authority of any nonpublic school offering any of grades kindergarten to 12 in approved schools. See Kansas Statutes 72-17,132
  • Entitlement: A Federal program or provision of law that requires payments to any person or unit of government that meets the eligibility criteria established by law. Entitlements constitute a binding obligation on the part of the Federal Government, and eligible recipients have legal recourse if the obligation is not fulfilled. Social Security and veterans' compensation and pensions are examples of entitlement programs.
  • Month: means a calendar month, unless otherwise expressed. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
  • School year: means the period from July 1 to June 30. See Kansas Statutes 72-17,132
  • State: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories. See Kansas Statutes 77-201
  • State board: means the state board of education. See Kansas Statutes 72-17,132

Each board shall report information necessary for determination of entitlements under Kan. Stat. Ann. § 72-17,137 to the state board monthly upon forms provided by it. Seventy-five percent (75%) of the apparent entitlement of each board for each month shall be paid upon proper application therefor by each board. All balances of entitlements under Kan. Stat. Ann. § 72-17,137 for the school year shall be paid to boards before June 30 and as soon as the state board deems practicable. The state board shall approve vouchers for payments under this section, and the director of accounts and reports shall issue his warrants thereon payable to the appropriate boards.
