Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 40:2405.6

  • Peace officer: means any employee of the state, a municipality, a sheriff, or other public agency, whose permanent duties actually include the making of arrests, the performing of searches and seizures, or the execution of criminal warrants, and is responsible for the prevention or detection of crime or for the enforcement of the penal, traffic, or highway laws of this state, but not including any elected or appointed head of a law enforcement department. Manufacturers of electronic control devices, commonly referred to as “stun guns”, which are sold for law enforcement purposes within the state of Louisiana shall develop a training and certification course which shall instruct peace officers as to the proper handling and use of the devices.  The course shall also contain instruction regarding the impact of high voltage electronic control devices and the effects of their use.  Every peace officer who purchases or is issued an electronic control device for use in the performance of his duties shall successfully complete this training course.
