Terms Used In Louisiana Revised Statutes 46:288.2

  • Court: means the court that exercised juvenile jurisdiction over the child in need of care proceedings involving the youth prior to his eighteenth birthday. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 46:288.2
  • Department: means the Department of Children and Family Services. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 46:288.2
  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Youth: means an individual who was adjudicated as a child in need of care, was in foster care in the department's custody on the day before his eighteenth birthday, and is at least eighteen years of age but less than twenty-one years of age. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 46:288.2

            As used in this Subpart, the following terms shall have the following meanings:

            (1) “Court” means the court that exercised juvenile jurisdiction over the child in need of care proceedings involving the youth prior to his eighteenth birthday.

            (2) “Department” means the Department of Children and Family Services.

            (3) “Youth” means an individual who was adjudicated as a child in need of care, was in foster care in the department’s custody on the day before his eighteenth birthday, and is at least eighteen years of age but less than twenty-one years of age.
