  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
  • Board: means the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:751
  • Chambers: A judge's office.
  • Dental hygienist: means a person licensed under the provision of this Chapter to perform those duties authorized by the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry as set forth in rules and regulations promulgated by the board in accordance with the Administrative Procedure Act.   • Dismissal: The dropping of a case by the judge without further consideration or hearing. Source:
  • Injunction: An order of the court prohibiting (or compelling) the performance of a specific act to prevent irreparable damage or injury.
  • Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
  • Oral argument: An opportunity for lawyers to summarize their position before the court and also to answer the judges' questions.
  • Remand: When an appellate court sends a case back to a lower court for further proceedings.
  • Unlicensed person: means a person who is not licensed by the board who illegally practices dentistry or dental hygiene. See Louisiana Revised Statutes 37:751
