- accumulated contributions: includes as much of the employer's contribution in the Retirement Allowance Fund as is needed to reach 7. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
- Actuarial equivalent: means an amount of equal value when computed at the discount rate contained in actuarial assumptions adopted by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
- Actuary: means the individual or the organization designated by the board to be the technical advisor to the board under section 17107. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
- Aircraft: means a machine or device designed for flight. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 10001
- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
- Annuity issuer: means an insurer that has issued an insurance contract used to fund periodic payments under a structured settlement. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2241
- Appeals board: means the State Civil Service Appeals Board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 7032
- Applicable law: means :

See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001base: means those properties and facilities within the geographic boundaries of the United States Department of Defense naval air station at Brunswick existing on the effective date of this section. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 10001 Breathing apparatus: means any breathing device, either high or low pressure, which is used to sustain human life under adverse conditions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1582 Chief executive officer: means the Chief Executive Officer of the Maine Public Employees Retirement System. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001 Child or children: means a person who has not attained the age of 18 years. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72 Classified service: means all offices and positions of trust and employment in state service, except those placed in the unclassified service by chapter 71. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 7032 Commercially: means , with regard to the buying, selling, bartering or trading of wildlife parts, for the purpose of resale or profit or receiving any form of remuneration. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1-A Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant. Consumer: means an individual, including but not limited to an applicant for insurance, policyholder, insured, beneficiary, claimant or certificate holder, who is a resident of this State and whose nonpublic information is in a licensee's possession, custody or control. Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name. Credit: means the right granted by a creditor to a person to defer payment of debt or to incur debt and defer its payment, or purchase property or services and defer payment therefor;

See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1541 Eligible medical condition: means Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis or any other inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, a condition requiring the use of an ostomy device or any other medical condition that requires immediate access to a toilet facility. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1671 Employee: means :
A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001Employee: means any person holding a position subject to appointment by an appointing authority. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 7032 Enclosed area: means a space between a floor and a ceiling that is demarcated on all sides by walls, windows, shutters, doors or passageways. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1541 Entitlement: A Federal program or provision of law that requires payments to any person or unit of government that meets the eligibility criteria established by law. Entitlements constitute a binding obligation on the part of the Federal Government, and eligible recipients have legal recourse if the obligation is not fulfilled. Social Security and veterans' compensation and pensions are examples of entitlement programs. Equitable: Pertaining to civil suits in "equity" rather than in "law." In English legal history, the courts of "law" could order the payment of damages and could afford no other remedy. See damages. A separate court of "equity" could order someone to do something or to cease to do something. See, e.g., injunction. In American jurisprudence, the federal courts have both legal and equitable power, but the distinction is still an important one. Extension of credit: means any acts incident to the evaluation of an application for credit and the granting of credit. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 4597 Federal hardship standard: means a federal standard applicable to transfers of structured settlement payment rights based on findings of a court or responsible administrative authority regarding the payee's needs, as contained in the United States Internal Revenue Code or in a United States Treasury regulation adopted pursuant to the code. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2241 Federal Reserve System: The central bank of the United States. The Fed, as it is commonly called, regulates the U.S. monetary and financial system. The Federal Reserve System is composed of a central governmental agency in Washington, D.C. (the Board of Governors) and twelve regional Federal Reserve Banks in major cities throughout the United States. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2241Information security program: means the administrative, technical and physical safeguards that a licensee uses to access, collect, distribute, process, protect, store, use, transmit, dispose of or otherwise handle nonpublic information. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2263 Information system: means a discrete set of electronic information resources organized for the collection, processing, maintenance, use, sharing, dissemination or disposition of electronic information, as well as any specialized system such as an industrial or process control system, a telephone switching and private branch exchange system or an environmental control system. Third-party service provider: means a person that is not a licensee and that contracts with a licensee to maintain, process or store or otherwise is permitted access to nonpublic information through its provision of services to the licensee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2263 Tobacco specialty store: means a retail business under 2,000 square feet in which at least 60% of the business's gross revenue for the last calendar year was derived from the sale of tobacco or tobacco-related products. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 22 Sec. 1541 Tort: A civil wrong or breach of a duty to another person, as outlined by law. A very common tort is negligent operation of a motor vehicle that results in property damage and personal injury in an automobile accident. Transcript: A written, word-for-word record of what was said, either in a proceeding such as a trial or during some other conversation, as in a transcript of a hearing or oral deposition. Transfer: means any sale, assignment, pledge, hypothecation or other form of alienation or encumbrance made by a payee for consideration. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2241 Transfer agreement: means the agreement providing for transfer of structured settlement payment rights from a payee to a transferee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2241 Transferee: means a person that becomes entitled to receive structured settlement payment rights as a result of a transfer agreement. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 24-A Sec. 2241 Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence. Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust. Upland game species: includes bobwhite quail, gray squirrel, porcupine, ring-necked pheasant, ruffed grouse, snowshoe hare, spruce grouse and woodchuck. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 10001 Wildlife: includes wild animals and wild birds. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 10001 Wildlife management: means the art or science of producing wild animals and birds and of improving wildlife conditions in the State.
