  • Abandoned: means left without provision for reasonable and necessary care or supervision. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • accumulated contributions: includes as much of the employer's contribution in the Retirement Allowance Fund as is needed to reach 7. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Acquittal:
    1. Judgement that a criminal defendant has not been proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
    2. A verdict of "not guilty."
     
  • Actuarial equivalent: means an amount of equal value when computed at the discount rate contained in actuarial assumptions adopted by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Adjourn: A motion to adjourn a legislative chamber or a committee, if passed, ends that day's session.
  • Adjudicated parent: means a person who has been adjudicated by a court of competent jurisdiction to be the parent of a child. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1832
  • Administration of civil justice: means activities relating to the anticipation, prevention, detection, monitoring or investigation of known, suspected or possible civil violations and prospective and pending civil actions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 803
  • Administration of criminal justice: includes the collection, storage and dissemination of criminal history record information. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703
  • Administration of criminal justice: means activities relating to the anticipation, prevention, detection, monitoring or investigation of known, suspected or possible crimes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 803
  • Adult: means a person who is 18 years of age or older. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 101

  • Affidavit: A written statement of facts confirmed by the oath of the party making it, before a notary or officer having authority to administer oaths.
  • Affiliate: means any company that controls, is controlled by, or is under common control with another company. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Affirmed: In the practice of the appellate courts, the decree or order is declared valid and will stand as rendered in the lower court.
  • Agency: means a branch office of a financial institution at which all or part of the business of the institution is conducted, but the records pertaining to such business are maintained at another office of the institution, and not at such agency office.   • Agent: means an individual appointed to serve in the capacity of a superintendent. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Agreement: means a legally binding written document between 2 or more parties, including, but not limited to, a document commonly referred to as an accepted application, proposal, prospectus, contract, grant, joint or cooperative agreement, purchase of service or state aid. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1660-D
  • agreement funding: means all agreement funds received by a community agency from the department. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1660-D
  • Airport: means :

  • All-weather road: means a public or private road that may be traversed during all seasons of the year. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8881
  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • Amortization: Paying off a loan by regular installments.
  • Ancillary obligation: means the obligation of the bond bank in connection with liquor operation revenue bonds issued under this subchapter under any of the following entered into by the bond bank:

  • Annual base compensation: means a member's gross compensation, based upon amounts reported by the member's employer on the member's previous year's federal wage and tax statement, that is used the first day of each April for setting the amount of coverage prior to retirement for participants in the group life insurance program administered by the board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Annuity: A periodic (usually annual) payment of a fixed sum of money for either the life of the recipient or for a fixed number of years. A series of payments under a contract from an insurance company, a trust company, or an individual. Annuity payments are made at regular intervals over a period of more than one full year.
  • Answer: The formal written statement by a defendant responding to a civil complaint and setting forth the grounds for defense.
  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
  • Appraisal: A determination of property value.
  • Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
  • Approved public treatment facility: means an alcohol treatment facility operating under the direction and control of the department or providing treatment under this subchapter through a contract with the department under section 20008, or any facility funded in whole or in part by municipal, state or federal funds. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20003
  • Approved treatment facility: means a public or private alcohol treatment facility meeting standards approved by the department in accordance with section 20005 and licensed pursuant to subchapter 5 and other applicable provisions of state law. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20003
  • Arborist: means a person who, for compensation, takes down or fells, diagnoses or evaluates the condition of shade or ornamental trees; solicits, recommends or supervises the treatment of those trees; or in any manner or for any purpose treats or cares for those trees. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2173
  • Arraignment: A proceeding in which an individual who is accused of committing a crime is brought into court, told of the charges, and asked to plead guilty or not guilty.
  • Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
  • Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
  • Assisted reproduction: means a method of causing pregnancy other than sexual intercourse and includes but is not limited to:

  • Attachment: A procedure by which a person's property is seized to pay judgments levied by the court.
  • Attorney-at-law: A person who is legally qualified and licensed to practice law, and to represent and act for clients in legal proceedings.
  • Authority: means the Finance Authority of Maine. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 11401
  • Average final compensation: means :

  • Bail: Security given for the release of a criminal defendant or witness from legal custody (usually in the form of money) to secure his/her appearance on the day and time appointed.
  • Bailiff: a court officer who enforces the rules of behavior in courtrooms.
  • Baseline: Projection of the receipts, outlays, and other budget amounts that would ensue in the future without any change in existing policy. Baseline projections are used to gauge the extent to which proposed legislation, if enacted into law, would alter current spending and revenue levels.
  • Beneficiary: means a person or persons designated by a member to receive a benefit under this Part or a person otherwise entitled to receive a benefit under this Part. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Beneficiary: A person who is entitled to receive the benefits or proceeds of a will, trust, insurance policy, retirement plan, annuity, or other contract. Source: OCC
  • Benefit: means any payment made, or required to be made, to a beneficiary under chapter 423, subchapter V or chapter 425, subchapter V. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Board: means the board of trustees, established under section 12004?F, subsection 9, to administer the Maine Public Employees Retirement System. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Board of directors: means the governing body with statutory powers and duties for a school administrative district. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Bonds: means bonds of the bank issued under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Branch: means any office of a financial institution, including a credit union, where the business of banking is conducted other than the institution's main office. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Budget authority: Authority provided by law to enter into obligations that will result in outlays of Federal funds. Budget authority may be classified by the period of availability (one-year, multiyear, no-year), by the timing of congressional action (current or permanent), or by the manner of determining the amount available (definite or indefinite).
  • Bureau: means the Bureau of Financial Institutions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Business day: means any day of the calendar year other than a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • capital: means the sum of common stock, paid-in common stock surplus, perpetual preferred stock, undivided profits and other capital reserves; [PL 1997, c. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Capital grant: means a grant award from the fund pursuant to section 6208 to cover eligible costs for a capital grant as specified in subsection 5, paragraph C. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 6201
  • Capital reserve fund: means any capital reserve fund created or established as provided in section 6006, subsection 1?A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Caucus: From the Algonquian Indian language, a caucus meant "to meet together." An informal organization of members of the legislature that exists to discuss issues of mutual concern and possibly to perform legislative research and policy planning for its members. There are regional, political or ideological, ethnic, and economic-based caucuses.
  • Central voter registration system: means a single electronic information system and database for voter registration information maintained by the Secretary of State and used by all municipal jurisdictions in the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • certified seed: as used in this Title shall be deemed to mean potato, vegetable, forage crop or grain seeds as shall have been grown and prepared for sale in accordance with regulations laid down by the commissioner and for which a certificate or tag has been issued as provided in section 2103.   • Certified seed source: means a source of hemp seeds that are certified by a 3rd party as producing hemp having a delta?9?tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2231
  • Challenged ballot: means a ballot cast by one whose eligibility to vote has been questioned during election day. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Chief executive officer: means the Chief Executive Officer of the Finance Authority of Maine. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 11401
  • Chief judge: The judge who has primary responsibility for the administration of a court but also decides cases; chief judges are determined by seniority.
  • Child: means an individual who has not attained 18 years of age. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • Child: means an individual of any age whose parentage may be determined under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1832
  • Child: means any natural or legally adopted, born or unborn, progeny of a member. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Child custody determination: means a judgment, decree or other order of a court providing for the legal custody, physical custody or visitation with respect to a child. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • Child custody proceeding: means a proceeding in which legal custody, physical custody or visitation with respect to a child is an issue. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • Child support: means money paid directly to a parent, to another person or agency awarded parental rights and responsibilities with respect to a child or to the department on behalf of a child receiving public assistance and medical or dental insurance coverage provided on behalf of a child pursuant to court order. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1501
  • Clear-cut: means any timber harvesting on a forested site greater than 5 acres in size that results in a residual basal area of trees over 4 1/2 inches in diameter measured at 4 1/2 feet above the ground of less than 30 square feet per acre, unless, after harvesting, the site has a well-distributed stand of acceptable growing stock, as defined by rule, of at least 3 feet in height for softwood trees and 5 feet in height for hardwood trees that meets the regeneration standards defined under section 8869, subsection 1.   • Clerk of court: An officer appointed by the court to work with the chief judge in overseeing the court's administration, especially to assist in managing the flow of cases through the court and to maintain court records.
  • Client: means a person who is required to complete an alcohol and other drug education, evaluation and treatment program for an alcohol-related or drug-related motor vehicle offense. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20071
  • Clone: means a hemp plant produced using any part of another hemp plant other than the seeds of that hemp plant. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2231
  • Closed period: means that time period when the registrar may accept only those voter registration applications presented in person. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Coastal island: means a natural land formation protruding above the surface of and surrounded by Maine's coastal waters at mean high tide or any portion of such land formation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 33 Sec. 1202
  • Coastal waters: means all waters of the State within the rise and fall of the tide and to the marine limits of the jurisdiction of the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 33 Sec. 1202
  • Codicil: An addition, change, or supplement to a will executed with the same formalities required for the will itself.

  • Commercial activity: means any activity in which a bank holding company, a financial holding company, a national bank or a national bank financial subsidiary may not engage under federal law. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131

  • Community-based service provider: means a provider of either the treatment component or the evaluation component, or both, of the alcohol and other drug education, evaluation and treatment program certified under section 20075 or a program approved by the office.   • Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
  • Confidential criminal history record information: means criminal history record information of the following types:

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.

  • Cooperative financial institution: means any financial institution organized pursuant to chapter 32 in which the earnings and net worth of the institution inure to the ultimate benefit of the members. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Cooperative services grant: means a grant award from the fund pursuant to section 6208 to cover eligible costs for a cooperative services grant as specified in subsection 5, paragraph B. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 6201
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Cost of issuance: means an item of expense directly or indirectly payable or reimbursable by the bond bank and related to the authorization, sale or issuance of liquor operation revenue bonds, including, but not limited to, underwriting fees and fees and expenses of professional consultants and fiduciaries.   • Counterclaim: A claim that a defendant makes against a plaintiff.
  • County commissioners: means the county commissioners of Androscoggin County. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 722

  • Court: means an entity authorized under the law of a state to establish, enforce or modify a child custody determination. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • Creditable service: means a person's membership service, the person's prior service and service for which credit is allowable under sections 17755 and 17756; section 17760, subsection 3; section 18258; sections 18355 and 18356; and section 18360, subsection 2.   • Criminal history record information: includes , but is not limited to, identifiable descriptions or notations of: summonses and arrests; detention; bail; formal criminal charges such as complaints, informations and indictments; any disposition stemming from such charges; post-plea or post-adjudication sentencing; involuntary commitment; execution of and completion of any sentencing alternatives imposed; release and discharge from involuntary commitment; any related pretrial and post-trial appeals, collateral attacks and petitions; and petitions for and warrants of pardons, commutations, reprieves and amnesties.   • Decedent: A deceased person.
  • Deed: The legal instrument used to transfer title in real property from one person to another.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.

  • Deposition: An oral statement made before an officer authorized by law to administer oaths. Such statements are often taken to examine potential witnesses, to obtain discovery, or to be used later in trial.

  • Devise: To gift property by will.

  • Discovery: Lawyers' examination, before trial, of facts and documents in possession of the opponents to help the lawyers prepare for trial.

Social Security and veterans' compensation and pensions are examples of entitlement programs.
  • Entitywide financial reporting: means financial statements and agreement supplemental schedules of a community agency prepared based on its fiscal year. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1660-D
  • Equipment purchases: means the purchase of new or updated equipment and any capital improvements necessary to use the new or updated equipment by career and technical education centers or career and technical education regions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Equitable: Pertaining to civil suits in "equity" rather than in "law." In English legal history, the courts of "law" could order the payment of damages and could afford no other remedy.   • Equity interest: means common stock, preferred stock, members' or partners' interests or any other type of capital instrument that entitles the holder to vote pursuant to the financial institution's organizational documents. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Escrow: Money given to a third party to be held for payment until certain conditions are met.
  • Evidence: Information presented in testimony or in documents that is used to persuade the fact finder (judge or jury) to decide the case for one side or the other.
  • Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
  • Executive order: means an order of the President of the United States or the chief executive of a state that has the force of law and that is published in a manner permitting regular public access. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703

  • Federal funds: means all federal funds received by a community agency and not just those agreements received from the department. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1660-D
  • Federal Government: means the United States of America or any agency or instrumentality, corporate or otherwise, of the United States of America. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 2001
  • Fee simple: Absolute title to property with no limitations or restrictions regarding the person who may inherit it.
  • Fiduciary: A trustee, executor, or administrator.
  • Financial institution: means a universal bank or limited purpose bank organized under the provisions of this Title, and a trust company, nondepository trust company, savings bank, industrial bank or savings and loan association organized under the prior laws of this State.   • Financial institution holding company: means any company which is deemed to be a holding company pursuant to the provisions contained in chapter 101. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Financing costs: means all costs of issuance, capitalized interest, capitalized operating expenses and debt service reserves, fees and costs of any ancillary obligation or other fees, expenses and costs related to issuing, securing and marketing liquor operation revenue bonds.   • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30.   • Formal involvement in the criminal justice system either as an accused or as a convicted criminal offender: means being within the jurisdiction of the criminal justice system commencing with arrest, summons or initiation of formal criminal charges and concluding with the completion of every sentencing alternative imposed as punishment or final discharge from an involuntary commitment based upon a finding of not criminally responsible by reason of insanity or its equivalent.   • Fraud: Intentional deception resulting in injury to another.
  • Fully marketable form: means a municipal security duly executed and accompanied by an approving legal opinion of a bond counsel of recognized standing in the field of municipal law whose opinions are generally accepted by purchasers of municipal bonds, provided that the municipal security so executed need not be printed or lithographed nor be in more than one denomination.   • Interest rate: The amount paid by a borrower to a lender in exchange for the use of the lender's money for a certain period of time. Interest is paid on loans or on debt instruments, such as notes or bonds, either at regular intervals or as part of a lump sum payment when the issue matures. Source: OCC
  • Interested party: means a person having a substantial interest in, or who is or may be aggrieved by, any act or impending act, or any report, rule, regulation, amendment, decision or order of the superintendent. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Interstate branch acquisition: means the purchase of one or more branches of a financial institution, out-of-state financial institution, federal association or national bank whose home state is different from the home state of the acquiring financial institution, out-of-state financial institution, federal association or national bank and the transfer of any branches so acquired into branches of the acquiring financial institution, out-of-state financial institution, federal association or national bank.   • Irrevocable trust: A trust arrangement that cannot be revoked, rescinded, or repealed by the grantor.
  • Issuing court: means the court that makes a child custody determination for which enforcement is sought under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • Joint tenancy: A form of property ownership in which two or more parties hold an undivided interest in the same property that was conveyed under the same instrument at the same time. A joint tenant can sell his (her) interest but not dispose of it by will. Upon the death of a joint tenant, his (her) undivided interest is distributed among the surviving joint tenants.
  • Juror: A person who is on the jury.
  • key participant: means a person who, as determined by the commissioner by rule, has a direct or indirect financial interest in an entity producing hemp, such as an owner or partner in a partnership. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2231

  • Municipal officials: means the mayor, aldermen, councillors or manager of a city and the members of the select board, councillors or manager of a town located in Androscoggin County. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 722
  • Municipal security: means a bond or note or evidence of debt issued by a governmental unit and payable from taxes or from rates, charges or assessments, but does not include any bond or note or evidence of debt issued under chapter 213 or Title 10, chapter 110, subchapter IV. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Municipal year: means a municipality's fiscal year as determined by the municipal officers under section 5651. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 2001
  • Municipality: means any municipality which is authorized under chapter 203, directly or through its urban renewal authority, to undertake and carry out redevelopment or renewal projects. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5352
  • Municipality: means a city, town or plantation. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Municipality: means a city or town, except as provided in chapter 225. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 2001
  • Municipality: means :

  • mutual institution: means any financial institution organized pursuant to chapter 32, in which the earnings and net worth of the institution inure to the ultimate benefit of the depositors or members. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Mutual voter: means a corporator or member as described in chapter 32. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • National Bank: A bank that is subject to the supervision of the Comptroller of the Currency. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is a bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department. A national bank can be recognized because it must have "national" or "national association" in its name. Source: OCC
  • National bank: means a bank or bank and trust company organized pursuant to the Act of Congress entitled "The National Bank Act" as amended, or any subsequent Act of Congress relating thereto. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Nolo contendere: No contest-has the same effect as a plea of guilty, as far as the criminal sentence is concerned, but may not be considered as an admission of guilt for any other purpose.
  • Nondepository trust company: means any financial institution organized under chapter 121 with powers generally limited to trust or fiduciary matters. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Nonparticipating department: means a department or division of State Government other than one defined as a department in this section that has not been approved for inclusion in this chapter by the commissioner. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1660-D
  • Nonprofit organization: means any agency, institution or organization that consists of or is owned and operated by one or more corporations or associations no part of the net earnings of which inures, or may lawfully inure, to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1660-D
  • Normal retirement age: means the specified age, the years of service requirement or any combination of age and years of service requirements at which a member becomes eligible for retirement benefits and at which those benefits may not be reduced under section 17852, subsection 3 or 3?A; section 17852, subsection 10, paragraph C; and section 18452, subsection 3.   • Notes: means any notes of the bank issued under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903

  • Open areas: means any space or area the preservation or restriction of the use of which would:

  • Other materials: means material not included in the definition of "nursery stock" such as containers, seeds and cut Christmas trees. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2211
  • Out-of-state: means a foreign country or a state other than this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Out-of-state financial institution: means a financial institution organized under provisions of law of a foreign country or a state other than this State that maintains, or seeks to establish and maintain, a branch in this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Out-of-state service: means service rendered as an employee of:

  • Outcome-based forest policy: means a science-based, voluntary process to achieve agreed-upon economic, environmental and social outcomes in the State's forests, as an alternative to prescriptive regulation, demonstrating measurable progress towards achieving statewide sustainability goals and allowing landowners to use creativity and flexibility to achieve objectives, while providing for the conservation of public trust resources and the public values of forests.   • Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
  • Owner: means any person, corporation, partnership, organization or other legal entity, including a municipality, county or other political subdivision of the State, an agency of the Federal Government and any quasi-governmental entity, which owns or controls historic property. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 33 Sec. 1551
  • Parcel: means a contiguous tract or plot of forest land owned by a landowner. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8868
  • Parent: means the legal parent or the legal guardian when no legal parent exists. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 101
  • Parent: means a parent, guardian or legal guardian. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Parent: means an individual who has established parentage that meets the requirements of this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1832
  • Parent: means mother or father. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Parentage: means the legal relationship between a child and a parent as established in this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1832
  • Parking facility: means any land or any interest in land, structure or portions of structures, and improvements on land or structures intended for the off-street parking of motor vehicles by the public for a fee. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5401
  • Parking system: means any parking facility, together with any public way or public parking area designated by the municipal officers as constituting part of that system on which parking meters have been or may be installed or from which fees or charges have been or may be collected for the parking of vehicles.   • Participating local district: means a local district that has approved the participation of its employees in the Participating Local District Retirement Program of the retirement system under section 18201. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Party: means a political organization which has qualified to participate in a primary or general election under chapter 5. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Paternity or maternity index: means , with respect to a person who has undergone genetic testing, the likelihood of genetic paternity or maternity calculated by computing the ratio between:

  • Permit: includes , but is not limited to, a permit by rule issued by the Department of Environmental Protection in accordance with Title 38, section 344, subsection 7. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 13054
  • Person: means an individual, trust, estate, partnership, association, company, corporation, political subdivision of the State, instrumentality of the State or other entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 101
  • Person: means an individual, corporation, business trust, estate, trust, partnership, limited liability company, association, joint venture, government; governmental subdivision, agency or instrumentality; public corporation; or any other legal or commercial entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • Person: shall mean the State, any municipality, political subdivision, institution, public or private corporation, individual, partnership or other entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 1751
  • Person: means any individual, partnership, joint venture, corporation or other legal entity or any group of persons which acts as a tenancy in common or joint tenancy for ownership purposes and includes any government or any agency, bureau or commission thereof.   • Person: means an individual, corporation, partnership, firm, organization or other legal entity. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 2001
  • Person: means an individual, partnership or any group of persons, whether incorporated or not. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2173
  • Person: means an individual, corporation, partnership, joint venture, trust, estate or unincorporated association. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131

  • Person acting as a parent: means a person, other than a parent, who:

  • Person recovering from substance use disorder: means a person with substance use disorder who is engaged in a process attempting to improve the person's health and wellness, live a self-directed life and reach the person's full potential. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20003
  • Person with substance use disorder: means a person who, due to the use of alcohol or a drug, has a clinical and significant functional impairment, including a health problem or a disability or an inability to meet major responsibilities at work, home or school.   • Personal property: All property that is not real property.
  • Petitioner: means a person who seeks enforcement of an order for return of a child under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction or enforcement of a child custody determination. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1761
  • Physical custody: means the physical care and supervision of a child. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • Pick-up contributions: means member contributions to the retirement system which are assumed and paid by the employer through a reduction of members' salaries for services rendered, in accordance with the United States Internal Revenue Code, Section 414(h), in lieu of employee contributions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Plaintiff: The person who files the complaint in a civil lawsuit.
  • Planning grant: means a grant award from the fund pursuant to section 6208 to cover eligible costs of developing a qualifying project for a cooperative services grant. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 6201
  • Plant pest: means any insect, mite, nematode, fungus, virus, bacteria, slug, snail or other form of aquatic or terrestrial plant or organism that may cause injury to a plant or that the commissioner declares to be a plant pest. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 2211
  • Plea: In a criminal case, the defendant's statement pleading "guilty" or "not guilty" in answer to the charges, a declaration made in open court.
  • Plea agreement: An arrangement between the prosecutor, the defense attorney, and the defendant in which the defendant agrees to plead guilty in exchange for special considerations. Source:
  • Pleadings: Written statements of the parties in a civil case of their positions. In the federal courts, the principal pleadings are the complaint and the answer.
  • Population: means the population determined by the last Decennial Census of the United States. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Poultry: means all domesticated birds. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 7 Sec. 1751
  • Power of attorney: A written instrument which authorizes one person to act as another's agent or attorney. The power of attorney may be for a definite, specific act, or it may be general in nature. The terms of the written power of attorney may specify when it will expire. If not, the power of attorney usually expires when the person granting it dies. Source: OCC
  • Precedent: A court decision in an earlier case with facts and law similar to a dispute currently before a court. Precedent will ordinarily govern the decision of a later similar case, unless a party can show that it was wrongly decided or that it differed in some significant way.
  • Precommercial silvicultural activities: means chemical or mechanical thinning operations, planting, stand conversion or timber stand improvement activities where no forest products are sold. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8881
  • Presalvage and salvage harvesting: means the harvesting of trees vulnerable to damage. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8423-A
  • Preservation agreement: shall mean any deed, will or other instrument executed by or on behalf of the owner of historic property, or an order of taking, which includes within it the terms of a preservation interest. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 33 Sec. 1551
  • Preservation interest: shall mean a right created by a preservation agreement which may be in the form of a restriction, easement, covenant or condition which is held by a qualified holder and which pertains to preserving or restoring historic property.   • Presiding officer: A majority-party Senator who presides over the Senate and is charged with maintaining order and decorum, recognizing Members to speak, and interpreting the Senate's rules, practices and precedents.
  • Presumed parent: means a person who pursuant to section 1881 is recognized as the parent of a child. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1832
  • Prevention: means any activity designed to educate or provide information to individuals and groups about the use of alcohol and other drugs. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20003
  • Prevention of drug traffic: means any functions conducted for the purpose of preventing drug traffic, such as law enforcement and judicial activities or proceedings, including:

  • Principal: means the person who supervises the operation and management of a school and school property as determined necessary by the superintendent under policies established by the school board. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 20-A Sec. 1
  • Prior service: means service rendered before the date of establishment of the retirement system as set forth in section 17101. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Private redevelopment corporation: means any corporation which is wholly owned or controlled by one or more educational institutions of higher learning or a corporation which operates on behalf of an educational institution on a nonprofit basis. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5352
  • Pro se: A Latin term meaning "on one's own behalf"; in courts, it refers to persons who present their own cases without lawyers.
  • Probate: Proving a will
  • Professional forester: means a person licensed pursuant to Title 32, chapter 76. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8868
  • Project area: means a slum area or a blighted, deteriorated or deteriorating area. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5352
  • Proper invoice: means an invoice for property, products or services deemed to be satisfactory in quality and quantity, in conformance with the request of the state agency and on which the amount due has been correctly calculated. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1552
  • Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government.
  • Public: means a municipal, county or other governmental body that is a political subdivision within the State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1660-D
  • Public criminal history record information: means criminal history record information that is not confidential criminal history record information, including information recorded pursuant to section 706. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703
  • Public law: A public bill or joint resolution that has passed both chambers and been enacted into law. Public laws have general applicability nationwide.
  • Public service infrastructure: means those facilities that are essential for public health, welfare and safety. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Qualified holder: shall mean a nonprofit preservation or historical organization whose purposes include preservation of historic property or a governmental body. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 33 Sec. 1551
  • Qualifying project: means a project designed to achieve significant and sustainable savings in the cost of delivering local and regional governmental services that reduces the demand for property tax revenues through collaborative approaches to service delivery, enhanced regional delivery systems, consolidated administrative services, broad-based purchasing alliances and interlocal agreements.   • Quorum: The number of legislators that must be present to do business.
  • Real estate: includes lands and all tenements and hereditaments connected therewith, and all rights thereto and interests therein. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72

  • Recovery residence: means a shared living residence for persons recovering from substance use disorder that is focused on peer support, provides to its residents an environment free of alcohol and illegal drugs and assists its residents by connecting the residents to support services or resources in the community that are available to persons recovering from substance use disorder.   • Recovery support services: means services that recognize recovery is a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives and strive to reach their full potential, including, but not limited to, safe housing, transportation, peer mentoring and coaching and assistance with and access to employment services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20003
  • Regional government subdivision: means :

  • Register: means to enlist as a voter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • registered mail: when used in connection with any requirement for notice by mail shall mean either registered mail or certified mail. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Registrar: means the registrar or deputy registrar of voters of a municipality. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Regular interest: means interest at the rate set from time to time by the board in accordance with section 17156. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Related health and medical services: means all health or medical services utilizing state-administered funds, including Medicaid and health block grants. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1642
  • Remainderman: One entitled to the remainder of an estate after a particular reserved right or interest, such as a life tenancy, has expired.
  • Report: means the State's social services report. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1642
  • Required debt service reserve: means the amount required to be on deposit in the reserve fund as prescribed by section 6006, subsection 1. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Required minimum reserve: means the amount required to be on deposit in a capital reserve fund as prescribed by section 6006, subsection 1?A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Rescission: The cancellation of budget authority previously provided by Congress. The Impoundment Control Act of 1974 specifies that the President may propose to Congress that funds be rescinded. If both Houses have not approved a rescission proposal (by passing legislation) within 45 days of continuous session, any funds being withheld must be made available for obligation.
  • Reserve fund: means the Maine Municipal Bond Bank Reserve Fund created or established as provided in section 6006. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Residence: means that place where the person has established a fixed and principal home to which the person, whenever temporarily absent, intends to return. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Residential property: means real property located in this State that is used for residential dwelling purposes. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 33 Sec. 1421
  • Residue: means by-products of a processed log, including, but not limited to bark, woodchips or sawdust. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8881
  • Respondent: means a person against whom a proceeding has been commenced for enforcement of an order for return of a child under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction or enforcement of a child custody determination. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1761
  • Retirement: means termination of membership with a retirement allowance granted under this chapter. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Retirement benefit: means the same as retirement allowance. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Retirement system: means the Maine Public Employees Retirement System. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Revenue-producing municipal facility: means :

  • Revenues: means all fees, charges, money, profits, payments of principal of or interest on municipal securities and other investments, gifts, grants, contributions, appropriations and all other income derived or to be derived by the bank under this chapter.   • Revocable trust: A trust agreement that can be canceled, rescinded, revoked, or repealed by the grantor (person who establishes the trust).
  • Revolving loan fund: means that revolving loan fund created under section 6006?A. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Risk pool: means utilizing and assessing risk factors for determining the need for an examination of an agreement. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1660-D
  • Roundwood: means logs, bolts and other round sections of wood as they are cut from a tree. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8881
  • Roundwood processing operation: means sawmills; bolter mills; shingle mills; veneer mills; fence pole and piling making operations; pulp and paper mills; wafer board, particle board and plywood mills; whole tree chippers; commercial fuel wood processors; bark processors; custom processing mills of these products; and log yards established to accumulate logs awaiting shipment to these operations. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8881
  • Rule: means a duly-adopted regulation of general applicability promulgated by the Bureau of Forestry. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8423-A
  • Satellite facility: means any facility, automated device or electronic terminal established by a financial institution authorized to do business in this State or a credit union authorized to do business in this State at which an existing financial institution or credit union customer may initiate banking transactions, including, but not limited to, cash deposits to and withdrawals from that customer's account, cash advances on a preauthorized credit line, transfers between deposit or share accounts or payment transfers from the customer's account to accounts of other financial institution or credit union customers.   • Separation zone: means an area that surrounds a clear-cut and separates it from other clear-cuts. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8868
  • Service: means service as an employee for which compensation was paid. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Service credit: means credit received for creditable service as defined under subsection 10. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
  • Sewage: means the water-carried wastes created in and carried or to be carried away from any structure together with any surface or ground water or household and industrial waste that is present. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 2001
  • Sewage disposal system: means any plant, system, facility or property used or useful or having the present capacity for future use in connection with the collection, treatment, purification or disposal of sewage, including industrial wastes resulting from any processes of industry, manufacture, trade or business or from the development of any natural resources. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5401
  • Sewer system: includes both sewers and sewage disposal systems and all property, rights, easements and franchises relating to those sewers and sewage disposal systems. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 2001
  • Sewers: means and includes mains, pipes and laterals for the reception of sewage and carrying that sewage to an outfall or some part of a sewage disposal system, including pumping stations. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 2001
  • Share account: includes , but is not limited to, accounts such as share, share draft and term share accounts. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Sign: means , with the intent to authenticate or adopt a record, to:

  • Social service: means any children's, youth, adult or elderly service and substance use disorder, community action, developmental disability, home-heating assistance, juvenile, mental health, intellectual disability, older Americans, poverty, rehabilitation, transportation, weatherization or other social service that may be defined in the future and that is operated by the departments or the division utilizing state-administered funds, including related health and medical services and income supplementation programs. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1642
  • Social service: means any social services program funded in whole or in part through an agreement issued by the department. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1660-D
  • Sociological composition: means the reflection of broad social and economic characteristics of the communities in which a mutual financial institution derives a substantial part of its deposit and loan business. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Solar clothes-drying device: means a clothes line, drying rack or other equipment used for solar drying of clothing. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 33 Sec. 1421
  • Solar collector: means a device, structure or part of a device or structure that is designed and used to transform solar energy into thermal, chemical or electrical energy to meet the water heating, space heating, space cooling or electricity generation requirements of one residential dwelling. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 33 Sec. 1421
  • Solar energy device: means a solar collector or solar clothes-drying device. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 33 Sec. 1421
  • Spoke: means a community-based provider, including, but not limited to, a primary care provider, that provides integrated medication-assisted treatment and behavioral health treatment and recovery support services to patients with substance use disorder, including, but not limited to, opioid use disorder, or refers those patients to such treatments or services. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20003
  • Spruce budworm: means the insect of the species known as Choristoneura fumiferana, Clem. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8423-A
  • Spruce budworm timber harvesting standards: means standards for presalvage and salvage harvesting of spruce and fir stands vulnerable to and subject to spruce budworm damage. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8423-A
  • Standards: means criteria and rules of the department that are to be met before and during operation of any treatment facility or treatment program. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20003
  • state: means any state, territory or possession of the United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 101
  • State: means a state of the United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands or any territory or insular possession subject to the jurisdiction of the United States. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • State: means any state of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the United States Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703
  • State: means any state of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the United States Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 803
  • State - administered funds: means all General Fund money, dedicated funds, federal funds, fees, grants, 3rd-party reimbursements, vendor payments or other funds or revenues available for expenditure by the departments or the division in support of the provision of a social service. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 1642
  • State Development Office: means the Department of Economic and Community Development. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 13054
  • State employee: means any regular classified or unclassified officer or employee in a department, any employee of the Maine Community College System except those who make the election provided under Title 20?A, section 12722, any employee of the Maine Educational Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf except as provided in Title 20?A, section 7407, subsection 3?A, any employee of the Maine Military Authority, any employee of the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority, any employee of the Maine Port Authority, any employee of the Efficiency Maine Trust who on June 30, 2009 is an employee of the Public Utilities Commission energy efficiency or renewable energy programs who elects to remain a state employee, any employee of the Efficiency Maine Trust who accepts employment with the Efficiency Maine Trust prior to July 1, 2010 who was a state employee immediately prior to accepting such employment who elects to remain a state employee and any employee transferred from the Division of Higher Education Services to the Finance Authority of Maine who elects to be treated as a state employee, but does not include:

  • State paper: means the newspaper designated by the Legislature, in which advertisements and notices are required to be published. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Statute: means an Act of Congress or an act of a state legislature or a provision of the Constitution of the United States or the constitution of a state. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 703
  • Statute: means an Act of Congress or an act of a state legislature or a provision of the Constitution of the United States or the constitution of a state. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 16 Sec. 803
  • Statute: A law passed by a legislature.
  • Statute of limitations: A law that sets the time within which parties must take action to enforce their rights.
  • Stumpage: means standing timber. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8881
  • Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
  • Subsidiary: means a corporation, partnership, business trust, association or similar organization, all of which are referred to in this subsection as "another company" owned or controlled by a financial institution or financial institution holding company. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Substance use prevention: means all facilities, programs or services relating to substance use control, education, rehabilitation, research, training and treatment, including reinforcing health behaviors and lifestyles and reducing risks contributing to alcohol, tobacco and other drug misuse. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20003
  • Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
  • Superintendent: means the Superintendent of Financial Institutions. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Teacher: includes a person who is on a one-year leave of absence from a position as a teacher and is participating in the education of prospective teachers by teaching and supervising students enrolled in college-level teacher preparation programs in this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 17001
  • Tenancy in common: A type of property ownership in which two or more individuals have an undivided interest in property. At the death of one tenant in common, his (her) fractional percentage of ownership in the property passes to the decedent
  • Testator: A male person who leaves a will at death.
  • Thrift institution: means a savings bank or a savings and loan association organized under the prior laws of this State. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Timber and grass: when used in reference to the public reserved lots, so called, in unorganized territory in the State, means all growth of every description on said lots. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Timber harvesting: means the cutting or removal of trees or forest products that when cut or removed are transported to a roundwood processing operation, as defined in section 8881, subsection 10. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8868
  • Timber harvesting activities: means timber harvesting, the construction and maintenance of roads used primarily for timber harvesting, the mining of gravel used for the construction and maintenance of roads used primarily for timber harvesting and other activities conducted to facilitate timber harvesting. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 12 Sec. 8868
  • Tort: A civil wrong or breach of a duty to another person, as outlined by law. A very common tort is negligent operation of a motor vehicle that results in property damage and personal injury in an automobile accident.
  • Township: means unorganized territory. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Trail easement: means a nonpossessory interest of a holder in real property for the purposes of creating and maintaining a trail for use by the general public:

  • Treatment: means the broad range of emergency, outpatient, intermediate and inpatient services and care, including career counseling, diagnostic evaluation, employment, health, medical, psychiatric, psychological, recreational, rehabilitative, social service care, treatment and vocational services, that may be extended to a drug user, a person with substance use disorder or a person in need of assistance due to the use of a dependency-related drug.   • Treatment program: means any program or service, or portion of a program or service, sponsored under the auspices of a public or private nonprofit agency providing services especially designed for the treatment of those persons listed in subsection 22. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 5 Sec. 20003
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
  • True owner: means a person who holds title to a coastal island which is:

  • Trustee: A person or institution holding and administering property in trust.
  • Uniform Commercial Code: A set of statutes enacted by the various states to provide consistency among the states' commercial laws. It includes negotiable instruments, sales, stock transfers, trust and warehouse receipts, and bills of lading. Source: OCC
  • United States: includes territories and the District of Columbia. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
  • Universal bank: means an investor-owned institution or a mutual financial institution authorized by its organizational documents to exercise all the powers granted in Part 4 and includes a trust company, a savings bank and a savings and loan association chartered by special act of the Legislature, established prior to October 1, 1975 or established pursuant to this Title. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 9-B Sec. 131
  • Uphold: The decision of an appellate court not to reverse a lower court decision.
  • User fees: Fees charged to users of goods or services provided by the government. In levying or authorizing these fees, the legislature determines whether the revenue should go into the treasury or should be available to the agency providing the goods or services.
  • Venue: The geographical location in which a case is tried.
  • Verdict: The decision of a petit jury or a judge.
  • Veto: The procedure established under the Constitution by which the President/Governor refuses to approve a bill or joint resolution and thus prevents its enactment into law. A regular veto occurs when the President/Governor returns the legislation to the house in which it originated. The President/Governor usually returns a vetoed bill with a message indicating his reasons for rejecting the measure. In Congress, the veto can be overridden only by a two-thirds vote in both the Senate and the House.
  • Voir dire: The process by which judges and lawyers select a petit jury from among those eligible to serve, by questioning them to determine knowledge of the facts of the case and a willingness to decide the case only on the evidence presented in court. "Voir dire" is a phrase meaning "to speak the truth."
  • Voter: means a person registered to vote. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Voting place: means the building in which ballots are cast at an election. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Warden: means the presiding officer at a voting place. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 21-A Sec. 1
  • Warrant: means an order issued by a court authorizing law enforcement officers to take physical custody of a child. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 19-A Sec. 1732
  • Water system: means all plants, systems, facilities or properties used or useful or having the present capacity for future use in connection with the supply or distribution of water. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5401
  • Water utility: means an entity as defined in Title 35?A, section 102, subsection 22. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 30-A Sec. 5903
  • Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.
  • Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Maine Revised Statutes Title 1 Sec. 72
