Section 88A. (a) The sprinkler fitter’s examination and licensing requirements under sections 81 to 86, inclusive, shall not apply to individuals who are: (i) regularly employed by a public water system or who are utility contractors approved and working for a public water system; and (ii) performing sprinkler fitting work related to the emergency installation and repair and the testing and maintenance of hydrants and appurtenant pipes and valves that are within the jurisdiction of the public water system; provided, however, that the exemption shall only apply to work related to hydrants and appurtenant pipes and valves and shall not include work on any other component of a fire protection sprinkler system.

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.

(b) Individuals who are regularly employed by a public water system or who are utility contractors approved and working for a public water system may perform sprinkler fitting work related to the installation, repair, testing and maintenance of hydrants and appurtenant pipes and valves of a multi-purpose system within the jurisdiction of the public water system; provided, however, that such work shall not include work on any other component of a fire protection sprinkler system.

(c) The department may promulgate rules and regulations to enforce this section.
