Terms Used In Michigan Laws 691.1753

  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories.   • State correctional facility: means a correctional facility maintained and operated by the department of corrections. See Michigan Laws 691.1752
  • This state: means the state of Michigan and its political subdivisions, and the agencies, departments, commissions, and courts of this state and its political subdivisions. See Michigan Laws 691.1752
  An individual convicted under the law of this state and subsequently imprisoned in a state correctional facility for 1 or more crimes that he or she did not commit may bring an action for compensation against this state in the court of claims as allowed by this act.
