§ 550.551 Definitions

Terms Used In Michigan Laws > Chapter 550 > Act 182 of 2013

  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Department: means the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs or its successor. See Michigan Laws 550.551
  • Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
  • Elective abortion: means the intentional use of an instrument, drug, or other substance or device to terminate a woman's pregnancy for a purpose other than to increase the probability of a live birth, to preserve the life or health of the child after live birth, or to remove a fetus that has died as a result of natural causes, accidental trauma, or a criminal assault on the pregnant woman.   • Health facility or agency: means that term as defined in section 20106 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333. See Michigan Laws 550.551
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, as well as to individuals. See Michigan Laws 8.3l
  • Physician: means an individual licensed or otherwise authorized to engage in the practice of medicine or the practice of osteopathic medicine and surgery under article 15 of the public health code, 1978 PA 368, MCL 333. See Michigan Laws 550.551
  • Public law: A public bill or joint resolution that has passed both chambers and been enacted into law. Public laws have general applicability nationwide.
  • Qualified health plan: means that term as defined in section 1301 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Public Law 111-148. See Michigan Laws 550.551
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
