Terms Used In Michigan Laws > Chapter 722 > Act 215 of 2008 - Foster Care Independence Act

  • Adjudicated delinquent: means an individual found to have committed an offense that, if committed by an adult, would be a criminal offense. See Michigan Laws 722.981
  • Child placing agency: means that term as defined in section 1 of 1973 PA 116, MCL 722. See Michigan Laws 722.981
  • Department: means the department of human services. See Michigan Laws 722.981
  • Foster care: means 24-hour substitute care for children placed away from their parents or guardians for whom the state agency or child placing agency has placement and care responsibility. See Michigan Laws 722.981
  • month: means a calendar month; the word "year" a calendar year; and the word "year" alone shall be equivalent to the words "year of our Lord". See Michigan Laws 8.3j
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories belonging to the United States; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the district and territories. See Michigan Laws 8.3o
  • Young adult: means an individual 14 years of age or older but less than 21 years of age. See Michigan Laws 722.981
