  • Deed: The legal instrument used to transfer title in real property from one person to another.
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, and to partnerships and other unincorporated associations. See Missouri Laws 1.020
  • Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
  • State: when applied to any of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" includes such district and territories. See Missouri Laws 1.020
  • United States: includes such district and territories. See Missouri Laws 1.020

When any forcible entry and detainer, or unlawful detainer, shall be made upon any lands or other possessions, against the provisions of this chapter, the person having the lawful possession, shall, against the wrongdoer, be considered as entitled to such quantity, extent and limits of lands as by the patent, grant, concession, deed, survey, donation, settlement or preemption right, such person or those under whom he claims can, by the laws of the United States or of this state, have and lawfully claim in and to such premises.
