1. If a person elected fails to qualify within thirty days after his election, the office shall be filled as if there were a vacancy in such office, as herein provided.

2. No informalities in conducting municipal elections shall invalidate the same, if they have been conducted fairly and in substantial conformity to the requirements of these sections.

  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies politic and corporate, and to partnerships and other unincorporated associations. See Missouri Laws 1.020
  • State: when applied to any of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the territories, and the words "United States" includes such district and territories. See Missouri Laws 1.020
  • Ward: if used in a section in a context relating to the property rights and obligations of a person, means a protectee as defined in chapter 475. See Missouri Laws 1.020

3. The council shall by ordinance, resolution or otherwise, divide the city into as many voting precincts as it may deem necessary to afford all the voters a convenient opportunity of exercising the right of franchise in all municipal elections to be held in the city, and each of said precincts shall be deemed a ward within the purview of the general and primary election laws of the state.
