- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
State probation and parole officers shall be appointed by the commissioner under the rules of the division of personnel, consistent with the funding provided for full and part-time probation and parole officers.
