- Child: means either a natural or adopted child. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 546-A:1
- Father: or "mother" means either a natural or adopted father or mother. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 546-A:1
- following: when used by way of reference to any section of these laws, shall mean the section next preceding or following that in which such reference is made, unless some other is expressly designated. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:13
- Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- justice: when applied to a magistrate, shall mean a justice of a municipal court, or a justice of the peace having jurisdiction over the subject-matter. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:12
- mother: means either a natural or adopted father or mother. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 546-A:1
- Obligee: means any person to whom a duty of support is owed. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 546-A:1
- Obligor: means any person owing a duty of support. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 546-A:1
- person: may extend and be applied to bodies corporate and politic as well as to individuals. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:9
- petition: when used in connection with the equity jurisdiction of the superior court, and referring to a document filed with the court, shall mean complaint, and "petitioner" shall mean plaintiff. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:51
- petitioner: shall mean plaintiff. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:51
- State: includes any state, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 546-A:1
- United States: shall include said district and territories. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:4
