- magistrate: includes any judge, municipal magistrate or officer or other person having the powers of a committing magistrate. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. Any officer who shall seize any property under a search warrant shall give a copy of the warrant, together with an itemized receipt for the property, to the person from whom it was taken or in whose possession it was found or, in the absence of any person, such officer shall leave said copy and receipt in the place where he found the property. The officer who executes a search warrant shall return the same to the issuing magistrate, together with a written inventory of the property taken, made in the presence of at least one credible person other than the officer. The magistrate shall, upon request, exhibit the inventory to any person claiming the property and to the applicant for the warrant and allow copies to be made thereof.
