Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 39:4-21

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
No person shall run or race a horse on a highway, whether the running, racing or trotting is for trial of speed or for the purpose of passing another horse or vehicle. This section shall not apply where permission for racing is given by the proper municipal authorities and the portion of the highway which is devoted to the racing is properly closed to other traffic.
