Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 5:9-14.2
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. - Prosecute: To charge someone with a crime. A prosecutor tries a criminal case on behalf of the government.
- State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
1. Any person who fraudulently uses a social security number that is not that person’s social security number to collect lottery winnings to evade detection for the purposes of section 1 of P.L.2007, c.106 (C. 5:9-13.17), or any other law requiring an offset of indebtedness or liability against lottery winnings, shall be guilty of a crime of the fourth degree. Nothing in this section shall be deemed to limit the authority or discretion of the State to charge or prosecute any person for theft under N.J.S.2C:20-3, theft by deception under N.J.S.2C:20-4, or for any other offense.
