Terms Used In N.Y. County Law 934

  • Indictment: The formal charge issued by a grand jury stating that there is enough evidence that the defendant committed the crime to justify having a trial; it is used primarily for felonies.
  • Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.

Each respective county of New York, Bronx, Kings, Queens and Richmond in which an indictment is found shall reimburse the county to which such indictment may be removed for trial for the cost and expenses of such trial, in the same manner as other counties are made liable under the provisions of this chapter.
