The director is authorized to determine which areas are to be known as freshwater wetlands, buffers, and floodplains, areas subject to flooding, and areas subject to storm flowage.

Terms Used In Rhode Island General Laws 2-1-20.2
- Director: means the director of the department of environmental management or his or her duly authorized agent or agents. See Rhode Island General Laws 2-1-20
- Freshwater wetlands: includes , but is not limited to, those areas that are inundated or saturated by surface or groundwater at a frequency and duration to support, and that under normal circumstances do support a prevalence of vegetation adapted for life in saturated soil conditions.
