(a)  If any provision of this chapter or of any rule or regulation made under this chapter, or the application of this chapter to any person or circumstances, is held invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remainder of the chapter, rule, or regulation, and the application of that provision to other persons or circumstances shall not be affected.

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • person: may be construed to extend to and include co-partnerships and bodies corporate and politic. See Rhode Island General Laws 43-3-6
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.

(b)  The invalidity of any section or sections or parts of any section or sections of this chapter does not affect the validity of the remainder of this chapter.
