A policy of health insurance shall purport to insure only one person, except that a policy may insure, originally or by subsequent amendment, upon the application of an adult member of a family, who shall be deemed the policyholder, any two or more eligible members of that family, including husband, wife, dependent children, or any children under a specified age which shall not exceed nineteen years and any other person dependent upon the policyholder or any other person related to and resident in the household of the insured.

Terms Used In South Dakota Codified Laws 58-17-2

  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • Children: includes children by birth and by adoption. See South Dakota Codified Laws 2-14-2
  • Dependent: A person dependent for support upon another.
  • insured: as used in this chapter , shall not be construed as preventing a person other than the insured with a proper insurable interest from making application for and owning a policy covering the insured or from being entitled under such a policy to any indemnities, benefits, and rights provided therein.   • Person: includes natural persons, partnerships, associations, cooperative corporations, limited liability companies, and corporations. See South Dakota Codified Laws 2-14-2
