  • Appointing authority: means the presiding justice of any court, the chairman of any board, commission or authority, and the director or commissioner of any department or agency, or any other person presiding at any hearing or other proceeding wherein a qualified interpreter is required pursuant to this chapter. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 521-A:1
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Deaf person: means any person whose hearing is so impaired as to seriously prohibit the person from processing linguistic information through hearing, with or without amplification, so as to require the use of an interpreter. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 521-A:1
  • Fixed Rate: Having a "fixed" rate means that the APR doesn't change based on fluctuations of some external rate (such as the "Prime Rate"). In other words, a fixed rate is a rate that is not a variable rate. A fixed APR can change over time, in several circumstances:
    • You are late making a payment or commit some other default, triggering an increase to a penalty rate
    • The bank changes the terms of your account and you do not reject the change.
    • The rate expires (if the rate was fixed for only a certain period of time).
  • following: when used by way of reference to any section of these laws, shall mean the section next preceding or following that in which such reference is made, unless some other is expressly designated. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:13
  • justice: when applied to a magistrate, shall mean a justice of a municipal court, or a justice of the peace having jurisdiction over the subject-matter. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:12
  • person: may extend and be applied to bodies corporate and politic as well as to individuals. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:9
  • Principal party in interest: means a person in any proceeding in which he is a named party or a person with respect to whom the decision or action which may be taken in any proceeding directly affects. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 521-A:1
  • Qualified interpreter: means an interpreter licensed under RSA 326-I. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 521-A:1
  • state: when applied to different parts of the United States, may extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall include said district and territories. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:4
  • Testify: Answer questions in court.
  • Testimony: Evidence presented orally by witnesses during trials or before grand juries.
