(a) The judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit shall receive a local salary supplement in an amount to be determined under subsection (b). The local salary supplement provided by this section shall be in lieu of all local salary supplements and expense allowances provided the judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit.

year: means a calendar year; but, whenever the word "year" is used in reference to any appropriations for the payment of money out of the treasury, it shall mean fiscal year. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
(b)(1) The amount of the local salary supplement shall be determined as follows:
a. Upon completion of six consecutive years of service as a district or circuit judge, a judge shall be eligible for a local salary supplement in an amount equal to 10 percent of the annual salary paid to a judge by the state.b. Upon completion of 12 consecutive years of service as a district or circuit judge, a judge shall be eligible for a local salary supplement in an amount equal to 20 percent of the annual salary paid to a judge by the state.c. Upon completion of 18 consecutive years of service as a district or circuit judge, a judge shall be eligible for a local salary supplement in an amount equal to 30 percent of the annual salary paid to a judge by the state.(2) The appropriate local salary supplement shall be paid to a judge for each year of continuous consecutive service as judge of the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit. The local salary supplement shall be paid out of the General Funds of Greene, Marengo, and Sumter Counties comprising the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit. Each county shall pay equal amounts of the local salary supplement in monthly installments. The local salary supplement shall be paid in the manner that other county employees are paid.
