Terms Used In Alabama Code 45-42-11

  • following: means next after. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
  • Probate: Proving a will
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
  • year: means a calendar year; but, whenever the word "year" is used in reference to any appropriations for the payment of money out of the treasury, it shall mean fiscal year. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
(1) The following officers of Limestone County shall receive the following annual salaries to be paid from county funds in equal monthly installments:

a. Chair, county commission $19,200
b. County commission members $13,200
c. Judge of probate $17,500
d. Tax assessor $15,700
e. Tax collector $15,700
f. Sheriff $19,000
g. Coroner $2,500
(2) Such salaries shall be in lieu of all other compensation heretofore provided by law and all fees, commissions, percentages, and other charges heretofore collected for the use of any of the above officers shall be collected and paid into the general fund of the county.
(b) In addition to the salary provided the county commission members and county commission chair hereinabove, the county commission shall provide an expense allowance of eight hundred dollars ($800) annually for the office of county commissioner and county commission chair and an expense allowance of two hundred dollars ($200) monthly for the office of coroner.
(c) The chair and all members of the County Commission, the Judge of Probate, Tax Assessor, Tax Collector, and Sheriff of Limestone County shall receive an additional expense allowance of one thousand dollars ($1,000) per year; the county coroner of the county shall receive an additional expense allowance of five hundred dollars ($500) per year. The expense allowance shall be in addition to any and all other salary, compensation, and expense allowance heretofore received, and shall be payable in equal monthly installments out of the county general fund.
(d)

(1) Upon May 6, 1981, and for the remainder of the present term of office, the following Limestone County officials shall be entitled to the following expense allowances which are to be paid on a monthly basis from the county treasury:

a. Chair of county commission $241.66
b. Members of county commission $200.00
c. Tax collector $95.84
d. Tax assessor $95.84
e. Sheriff $166.67
f. Coroner $75.00
(2) Beginning with the next term of office of each such official, the following Limestone County officials shall be entitled to the following compensation which is to be paid on a monthly basis from the county treasury:

a. Chair of county commission $483.33
b. Members of county commission $400.00
c. Tax collector $191.67
d. Tax assessor $191.67
e. Sheriff $333.33
f. Coroner $150.00
(3) The additional expense allowances provided by this subsection, when they become effective, shall be in addition to any and all other compensation or allowances provided by law.
