Terms Used In Alabama Code 45-51-244.01

  • Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Alabama Code 1-1-1
  • year: means a calendar year; but, whenever the word "year" is used in reference to any appropriations for the payment of money out of the treasury, it shall mean fiscal year. See Alabama Code 1-1-1

Montgomery County presently is authorized to levy and collect the special ad valorem tax at a rate of $.30 on each one hundred dollars (three mills on each dollar) of assessed value pursuant to Amendment 382 subject to approval by the electorate as provided by the laws of this state. Pursuant to a resolution adopted by the county commission in accordance with Amendment 373, Montgomery County proposes to increase the rate at which it may levy and collect the special ad valorem tax in the district to a maximum rate, for any tax year, which is equal to $1.85 on each one hundred dollars (18.5 mills on each dollar) of assessed value.
